5 Ideas for a DYI Spa Day at Home

As enjoyable as the holidays are, shopping, time with friends and family, and eating can also be highly stressful. Everyone feels overwhelmed with a booked social calendar, finding the perfect gift, and managing a tight budget. Being so busy can make it challenging to take care of yourself.

Holiday stress can quickly get you down and leave you feeling depleted. Fortunately, I've put together some self-care practices you can do right in your home to help you relax and enjoy the holiday season.

At-Home Spa Treatments

Spa Water & Herbal Tea

Getting your daily water intake doesn't have to be boring. Drinking flavored water at home or work turns an ordinary day into a spa day. Fruit-infused water and herbal teas can give you a spa-like feeling at home, reminding you to slow down and take a minute for yourself. My favorite combinations are strawberry-basil and grapefruit-rosemary. I also like to add Coconut Water Infusion Drops and mint to my water. Their ingredients are healthy, mood-boosting, and refreshing to boot!

Aromatherapy Shower or Bath

Adding a little aromatherapy bath or shower is a simple step that can turn a daily task into an act of self-care. If you've been to a spa, you're probably familiar with the intoxicating smells that essential oils produce—using essential oils while in the shower is a fantastic way to do something special for yourself when you're just starting your day or even when it has ended.

One easy way to bring the spa into your shower or bath is to add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil blend to a washcloth. Place the washcloth in the corner of your shower and let the warm water run for about ten minutes. Breathe the oil-infused steam and enjoy a relaxing shower.

Another easy way to create a spa-like experience at home is to add a bath and body oil product to your routine. Rejuvenate Bath & Body Oil is a dual-purpose, natural oil for the bath or body to relieve tension and restore clarity. Add it to a warm bath or use it on your body to hydrate skin after a bath or shower.

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is a daily body massage with a dry, stiff-bristled brush that's said to help get rid of flaky skin, increase circulation, and detoxify your skin. To get the benefits of dry brushing, you'll want to use a natural stiff-bristled bath or shower brush; I use this Dry Brush Bundle which comes with an instructional guide to dry brushing. Dry brush your selected areas while the bath or shower water is steaming up with your essential oils. Then enjoy your relaxing aromatherapy bath. Be sure to apply a lotion after your bath to put the moisture back into your skin. My skin always feels like I experienced a massage at my favorite spa.

Face Mask

Designed to be used every once in a while, a face mask can be an at-home treat when you can't make it to the spa. They give your skin an instant boost while addressing any areas of concern, such as dryness, acne, or dehydration. One of my favorites is the Collagen Sheet Mask. It helps rebuild collagen and reduce inflammation and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. My skin always glows after I use this mask.

Hand & Foot Soak

Your hands and feet work hard all day and deserve some pampering. You don't need an expensive machine at home to get a spa-like hand or foot soak. An Epsom salt soak is a fantastic option for days when your feet are tender, uncomfortable, and asking for relief. Absorbed through the skin, the magnesium in Epsom salt promotes relaxation while relieving tension, pain, and inflammation. Add 5-20 drops of your favorite essential oil, and you are all set for a relaxing soak.

Handwashing is a must these days but so harsh on the skin, often resulting in rough, dry skin. At-home soaks and manicures can keep them soft, supple, and hydrated. One recipe I often use is a basic sugar scrub. I put two parts sugar, mix half white and half brown sugar, to 1 part oil (almond, olive, or coconut), add 1/2 tsp Vitamin E oil, and mix well. Massage the scrub into your hands and wrists, paying extra attention to your nails and nail beds. The scrub will help to loosen any overgrown cuticles you may have. Two or three minutes will do the trick. Then I apply my favorite hand cream, Mangosteen Replenishing Hand Cream.

Suppose you want to indulge further; after applying your hand cream, place your hands into warm lavender-scented mittens. Lavender Spa Mittens, with calming lavender scent and moist heat, are a great way to end a relaxing spa treatment at home.

Take Care of You

Incorporating wellness at home is more important than ever and managing holiday stress is essential to your overall well-being. Treat yourself or someone you love to an at-home spa day! Taking time out of your day to care for yourself will allow you to relax and be more present during this busy holiday season.
